Russia's Nikolay Davydenko has advanced into the second round of the second round of the BNP Paribas Open (formerly known as the Indian Wells tournament) in the US by defeating Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.

Now the Russian will play against Juan Martin del Porto of Argentina.

Another Russian player, Yevgeny Donskoy, has also won the first round and now will have a game with U.S. Open champion Andy Murray.
