Merkel urged to speed up A-power phase-out

Thousands of people across Germany have taken to the streets to urge the government of Angela Merkel to speed up its promised phase-out of nuclear power.

They argued that atomic power is inherently unsafe and must be done away with.

Germany operates nine nuclear power plants. Most of their generating units will stay in operation until 2022.

Today’s anti-nuclear protests in European countries marked two years since the Fukushima nuclear accident on March 11.
