Greeks rally against gold mines

In Greece an estimated 12,000 people rallied in Thessaloniki on Saturday protesting against the government’s decision to allow a Canadian company to mine gold on Halkidiki peninsula.
The protesters insist that the work will damage the local environment, while bringing no sizeable profit to the country.
Canada’s Eldorado Gold Company promises to turn Greece into Europe’s number one gold producer, RIA reports.
