New Year, New Real Madrid
Sport
Real Madrid has turned over a new leaf in 2013. After a dismal end to 2012 that marked an early goodbye to their league chances, 'Los Blancos' have recovered their best form after the Christmas break. True, it’s too late to win 'La Liga', but their reaction has been instrumental in ensuring they have a fighting chance in the Spanish Cup and the Champions League.
Real Madrid has scored 22 points in nine matches, the same number as Barcelona, who with its win against Deportivo has played one match more than 'Los Blancos'. Mourinho’s team has won seven, drawn one (Osasuna) and lost another (Granada). Barça, who tops the league table, has the same number of points after 10 games. The 'Azulgranas' have won seven, drawn one (Valencia) and lost two (Real Sociedad and Real Madrid). Valencia, with 18 points, and Atletico, 17, occupy the two final Champions League positions in this hypothetical 2013 table.
