Acting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said he will be running for president "not because of personal ambitions,” but because he was "instructed to do so by Hugo Chavez.”
The former vice president announced this Sunday at the opening of the 12th Congress of the Communist Party of Venezuela.
He thanked the Communists, who had supported his candidacy for early presidential elections, scheduled for April 14.
Maduro announced that today at 11:00 local time (19:30 MSK) he would file an application to participate in the ballot.
Maduro will present voters with the same political program that was elaborated for the previous campaign by Hugo Chavez.
