Russian fest in London
Science and culture
A festival of Russian culture is opening in London today, on the first day of Maslenitsa, a religious and folk holiday celebrated in Russia during the last week before Great Lent.
The cream of Russian folk and dance ensembles will demonstrate their skills and acquaint the British audience with Russian traditions during the weeklong festival.
A gala concert with the participation of prominent opera and pop stars and dance groups will become the highlight of the event.
The program of the festival also features art and photo exhibitions, fashion shows, presentations of Russian dishes and workshops on handicrafts.
Street shows with the participation of actors and folk bands will bring the festival to a close on Sunday, TASS reports.
