The United States may impose sanctions on Pakistan unless it forgoes the joint gas pipeline construction project with Iran.
This came in a statement by the spokesperson for the US State Department Victoria Nuland. She commented on the reports that the construction of the gas pipeline has got under way in the Iranian built-up area Gabd.
The line is expected to be laid to the Pakistani city of Nawabshah by 2015. Nuland pointed out that if the project continued to be carried out, the US would have to resort to the law on sanctions against Iran.
The law provides for slapping sanctions on the countries that cooperate with Iran in the field of energy, Vesti.ru reports.
