Latvian extremists to march in honor of Waffen SS
World
Latvian extremists have been allowed to hold an annual procession in honor of soldiers who fought in Nazi Germany’s Waffen SS divisions during World War II.
Public events in commemoration of soldiers of the Latvian Waffen SS are held on March 16th .
Anti-fascist movements will be able to hold their own protest marches on the same day.
A decision to this effect was passed by the Riga City Council on the grounds that such gatherings pose no threat to public safety.
Until recently, the Council’s first Russian Mayor Nils Usakovs banned public gatherings on March 16th, in order to prevent riots.
