Several homemade bombs went off in downtown Dacca, the capital of Bangladesh, when clashes between the opposition supporters and police resumed there earlier today.
Hundreds of activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance of 18 opposition political parties tried to break through the police cordons to the government quarter.
They are pressing for an immediate step-down of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for forming a provisional government, holding general elections and quashing the death sentence to two Islamic politicians, who’ve been charged with war crimes.
The protests are being held as part of the opposition-called one-day nationwide strike. The opposition activists have been protesting in Bangladesh since late February.
