Chairman of Armenia's Union of Consumers Armen Poghosyan believes that monopoly control and price control need to be exercised simultaneously.
"Market risk is directly related to monopoly on the market," Poghosyan told journalists Dec. 13.
He pointed out progress in food safety controls. "This year we have registered 35% of violations against 65% last year. However, this is not a satisfactory figure. Inspections of 40 shops in Yerevan revealed products past their expiry date in 20 shops," Poghosyan said.
Armenia's State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition should be more efficient in exercising food quality control. The information on labels must be in conformity with what a particular product really is, Poghosyan said.
