Iran launches Jamaran-2 Destroyer in Caspian Sea

Iran launched the Jamaran-2 destroyer in the Caspian Sea waters on March 17 in this northern port city in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, BBC reports.
Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi were also present in the ceremony.
The 1,420-ton destroyer is powered by a 20,000-horsepower engine with a speed of 30 knots and has the capability to carry helicopters, different surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, as well as advanced artillery and torpedo systems. It is also equipped with electronic war system.
