Italy accuses India of violating Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations

Italy has accused India of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations following India’s banning the Italian Ambassador Daniele Mancini from leaving the South Asia country, TASS reported.
The Supreme Court of India took the decision to that end after Rome refused to extradite two Italian citizens, navy sailors Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, who are accused of killing two Indian fishermen.
The seamen were provisionally allowed to return to Italy to cast their ballots in the parliamentary elections of February 24-25, and they were to return to India no later than March 22nd to appear before a court of law. Italy insists that by planning to try the naval mariners India violates its international pledges, specifically the UN Law of the Sea Convention, since the incident occurred in the open sea.
