Exactly 10 years ago today US forces invaded Iraq after a demand for Saddam Hussein and his sons to leave the country or face an armed confrontation was ejected by Baghdad, TASS reports.

Hours later the US-led coalition forces launched a major ground, air and naval operation and on April 9 seized the Iraqi. Saddam Hussein was eventually captured by by US commandos and hanged.


Washington used purported development of mass destruction weapons in Iraq as a pretext for the invasion. WMD were never found though.
