Everest climber Lowe dies

The Kiwi mountaineer who accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary on his expedition to conquer Mt. Everest, has died, according to media reports.

International reports say 89-year-old George Lowe died on Wednesday at a nursing home in England.

Lowe was the last survivor in the climbing team that helped Sir Edmund and sherpa Tenzing Norgay reach the Everest summit in 1953. Lowe had turned back before the pair reached the peak.
