World
Germany is remembering victims of the Dachau concentration camp, the first of the Nazi death camps which opened outside Munich 80 years ago.
Commonly known as a “violence school” and a “testing ground,” Dachau acquired the reputation of one of the most gruesome camps which specialized in experiments on human beings.
At least 200,000 people became prisoners of the Dachau camp in its 12-year history.
40,000 prisoners were killed or died of starvation and disease.
The camp ceased to exist on April 29th 1945.
A memorial was opened at the site 20 years later.
