Jewish people celebrate Passover
Russia
Jewish communities in Russia and other countries are preparing for Passover, or Jewish Easter.
It begins at sunset tonight. Adolf Shayevich, chief rabbi of the Congress of Jewish Religious Communities and Organisations in Russia, will preside over the festive dinner in the main Moscow Synagogue, Vesti reports.
Passover, or Pesach, is marked to commemorate the Exodus, the liberation of Jews from 400-year slavery. That Biblical event occurred almost 3.5 thousand years ago when Moses liberated his people from Egyptian captivity.
Passover lasts for 8 days.
