Romanian president says good-bye to his party
World
Romanian President Traian Basescu has formally announced his break-off with the Democratic Liberal Party (DLP).
The party supported the president and between 2008 and 2012 was the basis of the right-of-centre coalition in the parliament.
Basescu made his decision after the party’s congress that took place on Saturday and reelected ex-Interior Minister Vasile Blaga the party chairman. Basescu said that he disagreed with the results of the congress and was leaving the party.
The president added that he would set up another formation in the right-wing political field.
The DLP lost the parliamentary elections in December last year.
