"My presence on the team is important. It was easier for me to return to my club, but I said I wanted to stay because I like it here." This was Cristiano Ronaldo's justification for staying with his team despite being suspended.

"Even if I don't play, I think my contribution is important for the team, for my team-mates and friends and even for myself. I'm with the national team in body and soul," the Portuguese captain said hours before he travels to Baku with Portugal.
