Russian scientists made quake forecasting easier
Science and culture
Russian scientists have set up a unique deep-water station in Lake Baikal to forecast strong earthquakes hours before they actually strike, RIAreports.
The station consists of a giant, more than 1 kilometer large aerial to pick up dangerous electromagnetic fluctuations in the lake, in the air and on the Sun.
In August 2008 the aerial registered strong fluctuations ahead of a magnitude 8 earthquake with the epicenter in the southern part of the giant lake.
