British citizens fight against govt troops in Syria
Middle East
Up to 100 British citizens are participating in the armed conflict in Syria on the part of the anti-government forces, the electronic version of The Times reports with reference to a declaration by the country’s law enforcers.
According to the newspaper, most of those volunteers are Asian natives who recently adopted Islam and also immigrants from North Africa. Many of them went to Syria straight after the conflict began, while others went there quite recently, The Times reports.
Special control over passengers bound for Syria has been introduced at British airports. London fears that if rebels are defeated in Syria some volunteers may return to the UK.
