New Yorkers applaud Hvorostovsky
Science and culture
Russian singer Dmitry Hvorostovsky ravished New Yorkers with his deep velvet baritone voice at a concert in Carnegie Hall.
He was accompanied by his long-time stage partner, Estonian pianist Ivari Ilja. Hvorostovsky sang romances by Sergei Rakhmaninov and songs from Georgy Sviridov’s cycle “Petersburg” based on Alexander Blok’s lyrics. All the songs were performed in Russian.
English translation was available in program flyers. After the concert, Hovorostovsky received prolonged ovations and sang four encores.
