Armenian young ecologists-activists have to struggle for Armenian Southern village Qajaran in the Syuniq region. Today they met journalists to tell the details of their activities.
The ecologists informed that Armenian Government made a decision on April to give the territory of six villages in Syuniq region to “Zangezur copper-molybdenum factory” for use.
Territory of Qajaran village will be used to expand the mine.
“The village has bad social-economical condition. There are no schools, hospitals, medical centers. And at the same time people’s human rights are violated they live under pressure”, Hasmik Evoyan, an ecologist announced during the press-conference.
Another participant of the press-conference, Mariam Sukhudyan was troubled for the demolishing village near the border. "We know that the soldier is strong if has a populated territories behind him," she underlined.
Ms. Sukhudyan also noted that meeting with Syuniq Governor Surik Khachatryan was just a show. He was too rude with the activist and it seemed like the Governor did not know about the decision. Besides Suren Khachatryan, had verbally assaulted the activist during the dispute on Kajaran village.
Speaking about the rights of villagers, Khachatryan used the word “dragonfly” in reference to environment activist Mariam Sukhudyan.
“You, dragonfly, speak less,” said the governor and left them.
The activists also said that the villagers did not have any alternative: “If the mine is worked people will have to leave their homes otherwise they will die”, activists noted and added that the will go and protect Qajaran’s borders themselves.
Below is presented the video of the conversation of the Governor and some representatives of Trchkan initiative.
