Vatican: floral decorations for Easter arrive

Some 40,000 flowers will be used in Easter decorations of Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, the Holy See radio said Friday.

Dutch suppliers have already shipped 20,000 tulips in yellow and white, the official Vatican colors. The yellow ones will cover the slope toward the altar that will be decorated with tulips, narcissus plants and hyacinths.

The Basilica’s balcony from which the Pontiff will deliver the traditional "Urbi et Orbi" message will be covered in white roses and orchids.

After the celebrations, potted plants will be planted in the Vatican gardens.
