Shakhtar vs Karpaty (U-19): lion’s day

On 30 March Shakhtar U-19 played their first league game this year versus Karpaty Lviv.
The opening minutes saw an end-to-end game. On 8 minutes the visitors took their first shot. The Pitmen responded with an attacking move that could have resulted in a goal: Miranyan capitalised on the error by Karpaty defender and bore down on goal but at the very last moment he was dispossessed by the opposition player. Not only did Karpaty defend well but also managed to threaten the hosts’ goal on a number of occasions. On 41 minutes they took the lead. Dronskiy netted the goal following a corner-kick.
The second half of the game started with Shakhtar’s attacks. Our players created a few goalscoring chances but failed to put them away. On 70 minutes Rusin had a chance to level. He moved in on goal but the opposition goalkeeper managed to parry away our forward’s shot towards the bottom corner of the net. The Pitmen dominated proceedings until the end of the match whereas Karpaty did their best to hold on to the result. The referee added 7 minutes to the normal time but the scoreline remained the same.
