Quakes hit N.Iceland
World
Residents of Grimséy, an island off the north coast of Iceland, awoke to a series of sizeable earthquakes local media reported on Tuesday.
Several residents of the island have reported being woken from their sleep by sharp and loud shaking of their homes, though no damage was reported.
According to the Icelandic Met office, the quakes measured 5.4 and 5.3 on the Richter scale and hit the island seven seconds apart just before 1AM.
Experts do not see the quakes as harbingers of a possible eruption by one of the island’s volcanoes.
