A car bomb exploded on Monday in a residential area in central Damascus, state-run television reported, giving no details on casualties, dpa reported.
It said the explosion damaged several buildings, including a school.
The broadcaster denied reports that there were clashes in the area and said roads were closed to pave the way for ambulances.
