Due to tax evasion visible among both private persons and companies the EU economy is losing 1 trillion euros annually, the EU Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Michel Barnier said in an interview for the Le Mond newspaper.
He said the information leak about thousands of owners of the off-shore accounts had made it possible to throw light on the scale of financial machinations, TASS reports.
It is high time that we should re-assess measures for the fight against tax non-payers.
Last week the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists posted on the Internet fragments from the dossier on auctioneers of 120,000 companies, registered in the “zones of tax paradise” – on the Virgin Islands, Samoa and Singapore.
Among them are politicians, oligarchs, arms sellers, representatives of show business, and brokers.
