Police in Dubai now have a Lamborghini Aventador patrol car worth $500,000.
A $500,000 specially modified Lamborghini Aventador, capable of speeds up to 217 miles per hour, will be patrolling only luxurious areas of the city.
Comments on Twitter included ones such as this by Roy Fernandes: “Officer, please cuff me in the Aventador and throw away the keys.”
Zero 2 Turbo tweeted: “I would not like to out-run this thing.”
Hamad Al-Sabah simply asked: “Is this for real, Dubai Police?”
Suspects and criminals won't be transported in this car, a source in the police noted.
In a statement, Dubai Police has confirmed it will soon introduce sports cars into its fleet to enhance its patrolling abilities.
The sports cars have been designed according to Dubai Police specifications and 'will help to facilitate policing on highways', according to the authorities.
Dubai police are said to be especially challenged by road accidents caused by speeding.
In 2012 official figures put road deaths at 122, with 2,161 injuries.
