UN, Damascus debate terms of probe into Syria chemical attacks
Middle East
UN continues to discuss with Damascus the terms of launching investigations into reports of use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Decision to investigate the chemical attack of March 19 in the vicinity of Aleppo, was taken by the UN Secretary General in response to an official request from Syria.
Britain and France have also insisted that an expert panel also examine reports of use of weapons of mass destruction in Homs in December 2012, and in Damascus - last March.
In the last letter Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem demanded that experts first head for Aleppo. If the mission proves its independence, it may be granted access to other facilities, said the minister.
