Sakura Festival ends in Washington

A colorful costume parade which culminated the Sakura Festival was held on Saturday in Washington.

The event was attended by several thousand people who gathered from all over the country to watch the event.

Along with local orchestras and music ensembles drummers from Tamagawa University in Tokyo also performed at the event.
The tradition of holding the Cherry Blossom Festival was born 101 years ago when the mayor of Tokyo presented 3,000 cherry seedlings as a gift to the American people.

Since then the flowering cherry blossoms have beeen a symbol of spring for residents and visitors to Washington.
