Football fans riot in Athens

AEK Athens' home game against relegation rival Panthrakikos in the Greek league was abandoned on Sunday after its fans stormed the pitch when the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 87th minute, AP reports.
AEK goalkeeper Yannis Arabatzis was ready to meet an innocuous cross by Panthrakikos' Dimitris Papadopoulos when 19-year-old defender Mavroudis Bougaidis stuck his leg out and turned the ball into his own net.
Seconds later, Panthrakikos and AEK players sprinted for the tunnel as AEK fans stormed the pitch. The fans, who were targeting their own players rather than the visitors, clashed with police inside and outside the stadium.
Police responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Eventually, the Athens Olympic Stadium was evacuated and police dispersed the AEK fans lingering outside, but the referee decided not to resume the game.
