Iran getting ready to launch Bushehr NPP
Iran
The Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran is just a step away of its launch, said Sergei Kirienko, CEO of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, RIA reports.
He said the corporation was in the final phase of preparations ahead of the power plant’s launch.
Germany’s Kraftwerk Union A.G. started building a nuclear power plant in Bushehr back in 1974. On August 25, 1992 Tehran struck a deal with Moscow to go on with construction works. The first energy block was finished in January 1995.
The so-called “physical startup” of the Bushehr NPP was carried out under IAEA’s supervision on August 21, 2010 as soon as the first batch of nuclear fuel was loaded into the plant’s reactor. A steam generating facility was launched at Bushehr’s first energy block in May 2011.
