One of the largest pink diamonds in the world – the Princie Diamond - has fetched more than $39 million at Christie's in New York.
The stone was purchased by an anonymous collector who was bidding by phone, the auction said, BBC reports.
The 34.65 carat Princie Diamond is believed to be the third largest pink diamond in the world and was found 300 years ago in the Golconda mines in southern India, the auction said.
Among its previous owners was the Nizam of Hyderabad, who was called the richest man in the world by Time magazine in 1937.
The record price of $44 was paid out at Sotheby’s in 2010 for another pink diamond known as the Graff pink.
