A mysterious green spot formed today on the surface of the ocean near the Japanese island of Miyake, where a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.2 happened April 17, ITAR -TASS reports.
The National Sea Security Division has already made an official warning about the potential dangers of shipping in this area. The experts are now studying in the vicinity of the spot and they do not exclude that an underwater volcano could have triggered the green spot, ITAR-TASS reported.
The epicenter of the earthquake occurred on Wednesday was located in the Pacific Ocean near the Izu Islands south of Tokyo, and the heart of it lies at a depth of 20 kilometers under the seabed. Underground tremors were felt by residents of 10 prefectures of Japan.
The earthquake slightly injured one resident of the island of Miyake, where there have been numerous landslides.
Miyake Island itself is a huge active volcano which last erupted in 1980.
