Brussels recommends opening talks on Serbia's EU entry

The European Commission on Monday recommended opening much-anticipated negotiations on Serbia's entry into the EU after Belgrade last week struck a deal to normalize ties with its former province Kosovo.

Noting the deal in a report to be handed to EU ministers, the Commission said it "recommends that negotiations for accession to the European Union should be opened with Serbia."
