RPA headquarters condemns any violence

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has criticized the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) over a statement addressing a recent incident.
In an address, the party’s central headquarters coordinating the campaign for the Yerevan municipality election calls upon the opposition alliance to conduct a civilized race.
It comes after several ANC members were assaulted in Yerevan’s administrative district of Ajapnyak while distributing their campaign leaflets among voters. One of the activists was later hospitalized with severe wounds.
In a statement issued later, the ANC condemned the incident, considering it an instruction from the ruling circles.
“The RPA central campaign headquarters coordinating the Yerevan Aldermen’s Council election condemns any violence, considering any kind encroachment hampering the campaign impermissible. In the meantime, it calls upon the political forces participating in the campaign to continue a civilized race,” reads the statement.
