Former Armenian presidential candidate Vardan Setrakian, charged with the attempted murder of another candidate Parouir Hayrikyan, will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Armenianreport writes. The cassation complaint filed in connection with his arrest was rejected.
Currently, Sedrakian's defence is preparing a lawsuit in the European Court, the Sirunyan law firm informed.
Earlier, the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan's administrative districts Kentron and Nork-Marash decided to arrest Sedrakian for a period of two months. The meeting was held behind closed doors and a request for the arrest was presented by the National Security Service of Armenia.
On March 5, Sedrakian was charged under Article 34-305 of the Criminal Code (attempt to murder a state, political or public figure) within a criminal case being investigated by the Investigation Department of the National Security Council. On the same day, the court of general jurisdiction of the two administrative districts of Yerevan granted the request of the investigative body assigning a two-month arrest as a preventive measure against Sedrakian.
