Landslide kills at least 14 in Ecuador

At least 14 people were killed in a landslide in the city of Esmeraldas in northern Ecuador, RIA Novosti reported.

According to authorities, the tragedy occurred on Tuesday night after heavy rains that hit the region.

Presently 6 bodies have been recovered from the debris, as rescue efforts continue. Preliminary reports claim there are several children among the dead.

In January this year a landslide in southern Ecuador claimed 11 lives.
