The year 2011 was a politically peaceful year, the sociologist Aharon Adibekyan told journalists Jan 12.
First, the dialogue between Armenia's the extra-parliamentary opposition and authorities played its political role. "Although the dialogue failed, it is a positive tendency and can be continued," Adibekyan said.
The expert also pointed out economic growth. "Our estimates are based on the number of homeless people and beggars. This number remains unchanged," Adibekyan said. The expert does not expect any substantial changes in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process as long as Azerbaijan has oil and gas reserves and is of value to the superpowers.
After Azerbaijan runs out of its gas and oil reserves, the superpowers will stop sponsoring it. Armenia's national currency was stable. On the other hand, Armenia needs $100bn external investments, whereas annual investments reach only $1 to $2 billion.
