Russia against turning Syrian war into conflict of denominations
Russia
A statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday condemns the Syrian opposition for attempts to stir a conflict between various religious denominations in the country.
The statement also condemns the Syrian opposition group Jabhat al-Nusra for destroying a centuries-old mosque in the city of Aleppo, which has been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Russia is very concerned with the destiny of two Christian metropolitans, Paul Yazigi and John Abraham, who were kidnapped by Syrian terrorists on April 24.
The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement says that the only way to peace in Syria may be through talks between the warring sides.
However, the sides in the dialogue should respect the communique on Syria which was adopted in Geneva on July 30, 2012.
