Athletic postpones Barça glory
Sport
A 90th-minute goal from Ander Herrera prevented Barcelona from beating Athletic de Bilbao at San Mamés and almost securing the 2012/2013 Liga title. Barcelona felt like it could almost touch the trophy with the score at 2-1, but a draw means that it will have to wait another week to celebrate. Even if Real Madrid loses the Madrid derby against Atlético at the Vicente Calderón stadium, Barça will still not be the mathematical champion.
Barça was potentially just seconds away from the title, having turned the match around with two goals in two minutes after Susaeta put Athletic ahead on 27 minutes. However, Herrera changed the outcome with a last-gasp strike. It was a fair reward for Marcelo Bielsa's men, who matched Barcelona for the second year in a row and only gave way when Messi entered the fray, which immediately gave his side a lift.
The Argentinian came on with the score at 1-0, put his team level with some of his characteristic genius on 68 minutes and supplied the assist to make it 2-1 just two minutes later, Alexis Sánchez capitalising on an Athletic defensive error. The good news for Barça fans is that Messi looks to have completely recovered from the physical problems which prevented him from shining on Tuesday against Bayern Munich, and looks ready to lead the comeback against the Germans on Wednesday.
