No more elections for Musharraf - Pakistani court
World
Today the Pakistani Anti-Terrorist Court banned the country's ex-president Pervez Musharraf from participating in elections. This ban will stay in force for life.
This decision was made by the court after it considered the ex-president’s appeal against the ban to run for parliament.
Musharraf is charged with seizing power in 1999, illegal dissolution of the High Court and arrangement of out-of-court reprisals,
including the assassination of ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
In 2008 he left the post of the president under the pressure of the opposition.
In March this year Musharraf arrived in Pakistan for the first time after his resignation with the intention to take part in the parliamentary elections on the 11th of May. However, almost straight afterwards he was detained and placed under house arrest which at present has been prolonged until the 14th of May.
