Mariinsky Theatre new stage holds debut performance

St. Petersburg has hosted a concert prior to the official opening of the Mariinsky Theatre new stage, on May 2 with Russian President Vladimir Putin in attendance.

On Wednesday People's Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev gave one of the most significant concerts in his life, as he launched the concert life of the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. It was a preview of the gala concert, set for May 2.

The audience that night was made up of veterans of St. Petersburg, in a show of acknowledgement for their many years of work for heir native city.

Officially, the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be launched May 2, with a gala concert featuring Russian and foreign celebrities, including Anna Netrebko.
