A bridge has collapsed in China, fate of 5 tourists unknown

A suspension bridge collapsed Wednesday night in the small tourist town of Fenghuang in the western part of the Chinese province of Hunan, the whereabouts of five tourists who fell into the river are unknown.

This was reported by Xinhua news agency citing local authorities.

According to the deputy head of Fenghuang district, at the time of the incident there were about 40 people on the bridge, 20 of whom, children and elderly people among them, fell into the river.

15 tourists managed to reach the shore; the search for the others continues.

Local authorities have already sent inquiries to all the hotels in Fenghuang to establish the identity of those missing.
