Mariinsky's New Stage impresses audience

The New Stage of the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in St.Petersburg hosted a concert of world opera and ballets stars on its opening day on Thursday, Interfax reported.
The concert began with Prokofiev’s “Montagues and Capulets” from the ballet “Romeo and Juliet” performed by the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev.
Maestro Gergiev turned 60 on May 2nd.
President Putin, who was among the audience, expressed admiration for the New Stage, which was designed on the basis of cutting-edge technology.
The cream of Russian and foreign dancers and opera singers, including Diana Vishneva, Ulyana Lopatkina, Viktor Baranov, Oleg Yesin, Anna Netrebko, Placido Domingo, Ildar Abdazarov and Rene Pape, were among the performers.
