Yerevan elects Mayor today

Elections of Yerevan Council of Elders are hold today.
Seven political parties take part in the election- 6 parties and one bloc: "Arakelutyun" ("Mission") party, "Armenian National Congress", "Prosperous Armenia", the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Republican Party of Armenia and "Rule of Law "and "Hello, Yerevan" bloc party, which includes "Heritage" party.
The largest list have RPA and PAP: 195 candidates - this is the maximum that is allowed by law.
List of the Republican Party is headed by the incumbent Mayor Taron Margaryan.
The list of "Prosperous Armenia" party is headed by member of Parliament and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanian.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation faction put forward in this election 65 candidates. The list is headed by ARF faction Armen Rustamyan.
"Hello, Yerevan" will participate in the elections with 64 candidates, a list of union of parties is headed by the Vice-Chairman of the "Heritage" party Armen Martirosyan.
ANC has put forward 42 candidates, and the list is headed by non-partisan Vahagn Khachatryan.
The second political force in the ruling coalition, the party of "Rule of Law", provided a list of 105 candidates. List of "Rule of Law" is headed by the Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan.
"Arakelutyun" party will participate in the elections with list of 29 candidates. Mayoral candidate from the "Arakelutyun" - Mesrop Arakelyan.
Polling stations will be open from 8:00 am till 20:00 pm local time. The list of voters includes 816,475 people.
Yerevan's Council of Elders, which includes 65 people, elects the mayor of the city. According to the legislation, the factions within the Council of Elders are entitled to nominate candidates for the post of mayor. The mayor is to be elected by voting of the council members.
The number of the voters during the Armenia’s Presidential Elections, held on February 18 2013, made 813 502, 810 925 of which were included in the main list and 2577 voters – in the additional lists.
