Tom Cruise to return as Ethan Hunt

Tom Cruise has signed on to reprise his role as agent Ethan Hunt in the fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible spy film franchise, Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday, DPA reports.

Cruise, 50, has starred in all the previous films in the series, with the most recent episode earning 700 million dollars at the global box office - Cruise's best performing film yet. The franchise has earned just over 2 billion dollars to date.

It is not yet clear whether Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton would return for another round of action.
