Obama on jobs tour across country
USA
On Thursday U.S. President Barack Obama set out on a series of trips around the country, with the aim of resurrecting ideas from his State of the Union address, where he called to expand the middle class by investing in new jobs and job training.
On Thursday he visited Austin, Texas, speaking at Manor New Technology High School.
“Thanks to the grit and the determination of the American people, we’ve cleared away the rubble of the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes,” Obama said. “So we’re poised for progress all across America.”
According to Obama, over the past three years the U.S. witnessed creation of 6.5 million jobs, but the majority of American families for a number of years have failed to see a growth in real wages.
Unemployment in the country dropped in April to 7.5% - the lowest level for the last four years. The level of unemployment in the country still remains high by U.S. standards.
