Fireworks wind up May 9th celebrations in Moscow, other Russian cities

A fireworks display of all colors of the rainbow lit up the evening sky over the Russian capital Thursday, in a salute of 30 volleys in honor of the 68th anniversary of the Great Victory in WWII.
Thousands of people assembled downtown to watch the fireworks. They filled all the embankments and bridges over the Moskva River, downtown Moscow, as well as the area near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
The fireworks display was very colorful and elicited loud cheers from those gathered.
Whole families arrived, with youngsters in tow. The display lasted about 15 minutes and was visible from all parts of the city.
Immediately after the colorful display, the pealing of bells was heard from the belfry of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
A festive artillery salvo was also performed in the hero cities: St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Novorossiysk, Tula, Smolensk and Murmansk, Sevastopol, and others.
