Russia and the United Kingdom are interested in preserving Syria as a sovereign state. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin after talks in Sochi (the Black Sea coast of Russia) with British Prime Minister David Cameron.
According to Putin, "there is a common interest in a speedy end to the violence in Syria and the start of a peace process."
The leaders of Russia and the UK discussed a broad whole range of issues pertaining to bilateral relations. They agreed to establish a working group on prospective energy projects.
Cameron said that that security agencies of the Russian Federation and the UK would be working together to provide security at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
After the talks, Putin and Cameron went on a brief helicopter flight over the mountain ridges and then visited the main Olympic stadium, that British companies had participated in designing and constructing.
